At present, most international volunteers and interns enter Tanzania using either an Ordinary Visa for humanitarian and charity activities or a Student Visa, depending on the nature and duration of their program. The standard visa fee is typically US$50 and can usually be obtained directly upon arrival at the airport or at designated land border crossings.

For travelers from the United States, Tanzanian immigration regulations currently require the purchase of a Multiple Entry Visa, which costs US$100. This visa allows multiple entries into the country within the approved validity period.

Tanzania Visa Extension Process

Volunteers planning a long-term stay in Tanzania can extend their visa once, allowing a maximum stay of up to six months in total. The visa extension fee is approximately US$250.

To make the process easier, our team works closely with the immigration authorities in Arusha and assists volunteers with the complete visa extension procedure, including documentation guidance and appointment coordination.

Passport Requirements for Tanzania

All travelers must hold a valid international passport with at least six months validity beyond the intended stay in Tanzania. It is also recommended to have several blank passport pages available for visa stamps and immigration processing.

Before traveling, volunteers are encouraged to confirm all visa and passport requirements with the nearest Tanzanian embassy or official immigration office to avoid any delays during entry.

As a volunteer or intern, you are required to pay a one-time application fee of €200. This fee includes placement arrangements, pre-departure preparation, airport pick-up and drop-off, orientation sessions, and continuous support throughout your stay in Arusha.

In addition, there is a weekly program fee of €130, which covers accommodation in a shared volunteer house (dormitory style), weekday meals from Monday to Friday, and supervision from our local team. For example, a four-week program would cost a total of €720, consisting of the €200 application fee plus €520 for the weekly program charges.

Alternative accommodation options are also available at different rates. A single room costs €225 per week, while a double/twin room or a stay with a host family costs €180 per week. The weekly fee will vary depending on the accommodation type selected.

Participants joining medical-related placements are required to pay an additional mandatory contribution of €70 per week. This amount is transferred directly to the clinics to support operational expenses and compensate medical supervisors.

For those involved in animal welfare projects, a minimum donation of $100 is requested, with an additional $25 contribution for every week beyond the fifth week.

Please note that extra personal expenses are not included in the program fees. These may include return flights (typically starting from around €800), visa fees (from $50), health insurance (from approximately €10 per month), and any recommended travel vaccinations.

Pocket money requirements depend on individual lifestyle and activities. However, an estimated budget of €50–€70 per week is generally sufficient for local transportation, weekend meals, and personal expenses. Public bus fares are inexpensive, averaging around €0.20 per trip, while meals at local restaurants can start from as little as €1. Participants interested in safaris or additional excursions should plan a separate budget for these activities.
